App Store Analytics: How to Track and Improve App Performance

Apple App Store and Google Play Store provide valuable insights into how the apps are performing in terms of user engagement and acquisition. This data can be crucial for making informed decisions, optimizing your app, and ultimately achieving your goals.

How to View Essential App Metrics

1. Log in to your App Store Connect account
2. Click on Analytics
3. You will see the basic metrics of the app performance regarding Impressions, Units, Proceeds, Sessions and Crashes

4. View metrics

  • From App Analytics, select your app. The Overview page opens with a summary of key app metrics.

  • From the menu bar, click Metrics. The Metrics page opens with product page views displayed by default.

  • The graph shows daily totals for the metric for the chosen time range. Hold the pointer over the graph to view data for a specific day.

  • To customize the displayed metric, click on the metric selectors (such as Product Page Views and By Date) in the top left corner. Then, select your desired metric from the full list of available app performance metrics.

5. Compare metric

App Analytics allows you to display two metrics at a time as a ratio, which can help you calculate key performance indicators, such as conversion rate or proceeds per paying user.

  • From App Analytics, select your app.

  • From the menu bar, click Metrics. The Metrics page opens with product page views displayed by default.

  • Click the metric selector to display a list of available metrics and select your desired metric.

  • On the right side, click the (... ) button and select Compare.

  • Click the menu next to Compare To and select your desired metric to compare against.

  • By default, the data displays as a single axis. Click the (... ) button to change the graph to a ratio or dual axis.

6. Add filter and dimensions

App Analytics metrics can be filtered by a number of dimensions, such as device type, territory, and source type.

  • From App Analytics, select your app.

  • From the menu bar, click Metrics. The Metrics page opens with product page views displayed by default.

  • Next to the metric selector, click By Date, and choose a dimension.

  • You can add additional filters by clicking Add Filter. For example, add Product Page Views by Device, by Region

7. Export data

You can export data directly from the App Analytics dashboard as a CSV file.

  • From App Analytics, select your app.
  • From the menu bar, click Metrics.
  • Select your desired metrics, filters, or comparable metrics.
  • On the right side, click the (... ) button and select Export as CSV.

How to Access Your Financial Report

1. Log in to your App Store Connect account
2. Click on Reports


3. Select the fiscal month for the report to see processed transactions and upcoming payouts.

4. To download the report, click Create Reports in the top-right corner.

How to View Essential App Metrics

1. Sign in to your Play Console

2. Select an app

3. The Dashboard page is the first page you see when accessing your app. It provides an overview of key metrics, trends, notifications, and insights to help you monitor app performance at a glance.

4. The Statistics page will provide a more detailed analysis. Key metrics and dimensions are displayed in two primary tabs:

  • App Statistics: Displays absolute performance data, allowing you to track key engagement and usage metrics.

  • Compare to Peers: Provides relative performance data that has been normalized for scale, helping you benchmark your app against similar apps in the market.

5. To view your app's installed user base, navigate to: Installed Audience > Users > Installed Audience > All Users. 

6. Select a time period. 

7. For deeper insights into your app’s performance, you can add dimensions to segment your data based on various factors, such as:

  • Android Version: Track download trends across different OS versions.

  • Device Model: Identify the most popular devices among your users.

  • Country/Region: Analyze your app's geographical reach.

  • Language: Understand user engagement based on language preferences.

8. After you set up your report, you can export it as a CSV file by selecting Export Report next to the title of the chart. You can choose whether to export the raw data or the changes.


How to Access Your Financial Report

1. Sign in to your Play Console.

2. Select your app.

3. Scroll down and navigate to: Monetize with Play > Financial Reports > Overview.

4. On the main page, you'll see data from the last 30 days by default. To apply additional filters, including time range adjustments, click on:

  • View revenue details
  • View buyers details

This allows you to refine your report for deeper insights into your app's financial performance.
