Verifying your account with Google has become a mandatory step to keep your account activated and your app live on Google Play. If you haven’t reviewed Google’s official document outlining this process, we recommend you start there. You can find it here.
In this article, we’ll address some less common scenarios and provide real-world examples that Google may not have covered in their help documentation.
1. What happens if I no longer have access to the account holder's email?
If you no longer have access to the email associated with the account holder, follow these steps:
- Create a new Google Developer account using a new email address.
- Complete the verification process for the new account.
- Contact Google Support to request an app transfer from the old account to the new one.
Tip: Ensure the new account email is a general email (e.g., [email protected]) to avoid similar issues in the future.
2. Can I change the account holder's email?
Unfortunately, Google does not allow changes to the account holder’s email. Instead, you will need to:
- Create a new Google Developer account with the desired email address.
- Complete the verification process.
- Contact Google Support to transfer the app to the new account.

3. What document should we provide if we are from a government organization?
If you are a government organization and don’t have the standard business documents Google recommends, you can use a document with your government’s official letterhead as proof. You can find one example here.
Tip: Ensure the letter to Google includes a clear and accurate date for reference.
