Before You Start

To sign up for a Google Developer Account and publish apps on the Google Play Store, make sure you have the following information ready:

  • Public developer name (this should match the name that your Duns # is registered as)
  • As per your linked Google Payments profile:
To look up your D-U-N-S number:

If your company isn't listed, you can request a D-U-N-S number for free. Normal processing can take up to 30 business days. An expedited D-U-N-S service (for $229) can provide a number within 8 business days.

Information You’ll Need:

  • Legal entity name
  • Headquarters address
  • Mailing address
  • Work contact information

You may also be contacted by Dun & Bradstreet to verify additional information, such as your business type and number of employees.

  • Organization phone number
  • Organization website
  • Contact name
  • Contact email address, for Google to contact you (must be verified)
  • Contact phone number, for Google to contact you (must be verified)
  • Developer email address, shown as part of your developer profile on Google Play
  • Developer phone number, shown as part of your developer profile on Google Play

Ensure both your email and phone number are accessible, as you will need them for verification with a 6-digit code.

Many organizations have lost access to their developer accounts when staff members left and didn’t provide proper handover information. Establish a process within your team to avoid complications in the future.

To enhance account security, consider adding multiple recovery methods. You can manage this via Google Account Security Settings to ensure you have different options for account recovery.

Step-by-Step Guide to Enroll in the Google Developer Program

Step 1: Access the Google Play Console

  • Go to the Google Play Console and sign in with your Gmail account, or create a new one if necessary. Keep in mind that the account you sign in with will permanently own the developer account, so choose carefully.
  • Once signed in, select Organization Account and click Get Started to begin the process of creating your Google Developer account.

Step 2: Provide Your Developer Information

  • Enter your developer name, which will appear publicly on the Play Store alongside your app.
  • Choose to either link an existing payment profile or create a new one. At this step, Google will request your organization's D-U-N-S number for verification purposes. Make sure to double-check the name and details match your organization's legal information.

Step 3: Verify Your Developer Profile

  • Enter a developer email and phone number that will be publicly displayed on your Google Play profile.
  • Enter additional details, including a contact name, phone number, and email for Google to contact you (this information will not be public).
  • Verify the emails and contact phone numbers by entering the 6-digit codes Google sends.

Step 4: Agree to Terms and Pay Registration Fee

  • Carefully read through the Google Play Developer Distribution Agreement and Google Play Console Terms of Service.
  • Accept the terms, then click "Create Account and Pay."
  • Pay the one-time $25 registration fee using a valid credit or debit card.

Step 5: Verify Your Identity

After payment, you'll be prompted to verify your identity. Follow the instructions and upload the required documents.

Google will review your documents, and you should receive a confirmation email within a few days.

Once verified, you will be able to access the Google Play Console.

Consider using a contact email address that is different from the one that you used when creating your Google Play developer account, especially if your developer account has multiple users or is created for an organization or business. You might want to consider setting up a dedicated shared inbox for this purpose so that the right set of people within your team or organization can access these important messages.

You are now enrolled in the Google Developer Program and can start developing and publishing apps on the Google Play. To streamline the process, be sure to invite STQRY to your account so we can handle publishing and maintaining the app on your behalf.
