Turn on Family Sharing

Created by Glen Barnes, Modified on Fri, 2 Feb at 2:49 AM by Natalie Nguyen

It is common nowadays for families to want to use the same apps without paying multiple times. The solution for this is the Family Sharing program.

Both Google and Apple offer this option, however, this program is different on the two platforms.

  •  Apple allows sharing a non-consumable in-app purchase with up to five additional family members, Google does not.
  • Google allows sharing a paid app with up to five other family members but Apple does not.

We wrote another article to guide you on how to set up in-app purchases, you can read it here.

Apple: please note that once you turn on Family Sharing for in-app purchases in App Store Connect, you cannot turn it off. To set it up, you should

  1. Log in to App Store Connect

  2. From My Apps, select your app.

  3. In the sidebar under In-App Purchases, click Manage.

  4. Select your in-app purchase from the list.

  5. Scroll down to the Family Sharing section.

  6. Click Turn On.

Google: Once the end-users sign up for the Family Library program on Google Play, they will be able to share any paid apps with up to 5  family members.
