A display shows one thing at a time. This article covers choosing what that is.
The kinds of content
Open the project's Displays tab, find the display, and edit it. Under Display content you choose a type and then the item.
| Type | What it does | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Playlist | Loops that playlist, always | The screen shows the same loop every day |
| Schedule | Plays whatever the calendar says is active | Content changes by time, day or date |
| Media item | Shows a single image | One poster or one looping video |
| Location program | Plays according to where the display is | The screen moves: a boat, bus or tour vehicle |
| None | Nothing assigned |
Location programs require a Signage - Standard license. See License types and what each includes.

A display is assigned one piece of content, of one of four kinds.
You can't combine these. If you want different content at different times, use a schedule and put your playlists inside it.Assign the content
1. Open the Signage project and go to the Displays tab.
2. Find the display and click to edit it.
3. Set Display content to the type, then pick the item.
4. Click Save.
The change reaches the screen on its next check, within about five minutes. A screen that's still waiting for its first content picks it up almost immediately.
To make it happen straight away, use Reload display in the on-device settings overlay. See Open the on-device settings overlay.

The Content column links straight to whatever is assigned.
The Displays table
The project's Displays tab shows, for each display:
- Name
- Activation key: with a red warning icon if the display is unlicensed.
- Content: a link to whatever is assigned, or No content linked.
- Sync: a tick if synchronized playback is on. See Synchronized playback across multiple displays.
- Status: what the screen last reported. See Display status: what the badges mean.
The Content column links directly to whatever is assigned, so you can jump from a display to its playlist in one click.
Unassigning
To remove content, set Display content to None. The screen will show "Display has no running playlists" on its next check.
The Unlink action goes a step further — it removes both the content and the project assignment. A display with no project shows "This display is connected — waiting for content" instead.
Behaviour notes
- You can assign the same playlist or schedule to as many displays as you like.
- There is no display-group feature. Displays are organized by project and found by searching their names, so using clear, consistent names makes them easier to find — for example, Lobby North Wall, Lobby South Wall, Cafe Counter.
- Deleting a playlist or schedule that a display is currently using will leave that display with no content. Builder warns you first and names the displays affected.
- Deleting the display record is different: that screen stops and shows a message that the activation key does not exist.
