Create a schedule

A schedule controls when your playlists play on a display. You place them on a calendar so different content runs at different times. A welcome loop in the morning, a promotion over lunch, a holding screen overnight.

This article covers creating the schedule itself. Filling it with time blocks is covered in Build a schedule: time blocks, priority and recurrence.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • A STQRY account with access to a Signage project.
  • At least one playlist, if you want to add content straight away. See Create a playlist.
  • The timezone set correctly on any display you'll assign this schedule to.

Schedules resolve in each display's own timezone, so a wrong one shifts every block. New display records start on `America/New_York`, so check it rather than assuming.

Step 1: Open the Schedules page

Go to Projects, open your Signage project, and select the Schedule tab in the inner sidebar. You'll see any schedules that already exist and the displays they're assigned to.

The Schedules page inside a Signage project, with the Create schedule button in the top right.

The Schedule tab lists every schedule in the project.

Step 2: Create and name the schedule

In the top right, click the magenta Create schedule button. A small dialog opens asking you to name it.

A schedule needs only a name to get started.

Type a name that tells you at a glance what it controls or where it plays. For example, Lobby Weekday Hours, Cafe Specials Rotation or Exhibit Hall Holiday. Then click Save & Close.

Step 3: Add time blocks

The schedule opens in a calendar view, with days across the top and hours down the side. A new schedule starts empty.

A new schedule opens on an empty calendar.

  • The + button at the top left adds a time block.
  • The left and right arrows beside Today move between weeks.
  • The Week dropdown switches between day, week and month views.
  • Back to schedules in the breadcrumb returns to the list.

Each block specifies which playlist plays, on which dates, and between which times. A schedule can hold as many blocks as you need. See Build a schedule: time blocks, priority and recurrence.

Step 4: Assign the schedule to a display

A schedule won't play on screen until it's assigned to a display. Go to the project's Displays tab and set the display's content to this schedule. Until then, the Displays column shows Unassigned.

See Assign content to a display.

Editing or deleting a schedule

Hover over a schedule on the Schedules page to reveal the action icons. The pencil reopens the editor so you can change blocks or rename it. The trash deletes it permanently.

Deleting a schedule removes it from every display it was assigned to. Those displays fall back to the waiting screen until you assign new content.

Behavior notes

  • When no block is active, the screen shows "Display has no running playlists", not a blank screen and not the last thing that played.
  • To keep something on screen at all times, add a low-priority all-day block with a holding playlist. Higher-priority blocks take over when they're active, and the holding playlist fills every gap.
