This walkthrough takes a brand-new device and gets it playing your content. Allow about fifteen minutes.
Before you start
You'll need:
- A STQRY account with a Signage project and at least one available Signage license.
- A supported device — see Supported platforms, devices and requirements. A Fire TV Stick or an Android TV box is the fastest option.
- The images or videos you want to show.
- The device and your computer both on the internet. They do not need to be on the same network.
Step 1: Install the app
Install STQRY Signage on the device from its app store:
- Fire TV — Amazon Appstore
- Android TV or Android — Google Play Store
- Windows — Microsoft Store
- iPad, iPhone or Mac — App Store
To skip installing entirely, open https://signage-ng.stqry.com in a browser.
Open the app. It shows a STQRY-branded screen with a short screen code on it, like S-K4M2XP.

A new install shows a screen code. Type this into Builder to adopt the display.
Step 2: Adopt the display in Builder
Log into STQRY Builder on your computer.
1. Go to Displays in your account.
2. Click Adopt display.
3. Type the screen code exactly as it appears on the screen, then confirm.
Within about five seconds the device notices it has been adopted and moves on by itself. You do not need to touch it.
The display now says "This display is connected — waiting for content". That's correct; it has no content yet.

Manage Account → Displays → Add display → Adopt display. The code is the one shown on the screen.
Step 3: Name the display and assign it to your project
Still in Builder, find the new display in the list and open it.
Set:
- Name — something you'll recognise on a list of fifty. For example, Lobby — North Wall, not Display 3.
- Timezone — the display's local timezone. Schedules are resolved in this timezone, so getting it wrong shifts every time block. New display records start on
America/New_York, so set this even if the display is somewhere else and you'd otherwise skip the field. - Project — your Signage project.
- License — assign a Signage license from your account pool. See License types and what each includes.
Save.
Step 4: Build a playlist
Open your Signage project and go to the Playlists tab, then click Create playlist.
1. Click the pencil icon to name it.
2. Drag your images and videos onto the drop zone, or click Upload, or click Library to pick files already in your Content Library.
3. Set a Duration for each image — how many seconds it stays on screen. Ten seconds is a sensible default. Videos play for their own full length regardless of what you type here.
4. Drag the handles to set the order. The playlist plays top to bottom, then loops.
5. Click Save & Close.
Create a playlist covers this in more detail.
Step 5: Assign the playlist to the display
Go to the project's Displays tab, find your display, and edit it.
Under Display content, choose Playlist and pick the playlist you just made. Save.
Step 6: Watch it appear
A display that is waiting for content checks every thirty seconds, so your playlist should appear within a minute without anyone touching the device.
The screen will briefly show a loading sequence while it downloads and caches every file, then start playing.

Content appears within about a minute of being assigned.
If it doesn't appear, see Troubleshooting a display.
What to do next
You now have a working display. The obvious next moves:
Show different content at different times of day. Build a schedule and assign that to the display instead of the playlist. See Create a schedule.
Add more screens. Repeat steps 1–3 for each device, then assign the same playlist or schedule to all of them.
Keep several screens in step. If two screens sit side by side and should change slides at the same instant, turn on Sync display on each one. See Synchronised playback across multiple displays.
Show content in more than one language. Add languages to the project and upload a version of each media item per language. See Content languages and the language switcher.
Change content based on where the display is. For vehicles and tours, build a location program. See Location programs: an overview.
