STQRY Signage runs on most things with a screen and a network connection. This article lists every supported platform, where to get the app, and the minimum version each one needs.
At a glance
| Platform | Where to get it | Minimum version |
| Web browser | No install — open a URL | Any current browser |
| Amazon Fire TV | Amazon Appstore | Fire OS 7 or later |
| Android TV / Android | Google Play Store | Android 7.0 (API 24) |
| Windows | Microsoft Store | Windows 10 version 1809, 64-bit |
| iPad / iPhone | App Store | iPadOS / iOS 16 |
| Mac | Mac App Store | MacOS 14 Sonoma |
All of them need an internet connection to set up and to receive content changes. Once a display has loaded its content, it keeps playing without a network — see How updates reach your displays.
Pick the right one
For a single screen in a lobby or gallery, a Fire TV Stick or an Android TV box is usually the cheapest and easiest option. Both plug straight into the TV's HDMI port and run unattended.
For a screen that must survive power cuts unattended, use a device that restarts into the app by itself — a Fire TV or an Android TV box. A Windows PC or a Mac will need someone to log in after a hard power loss unless it is configured for auto-login.
For a portrait-mounted screen, any of them. Nothing is locked to landscape.
When none of the others will run on the hardware you have, use the browser build. It is a supported fallback, not just a demo — any machine with a current browser can drive a screen with it. It is also the quickest way to try Signage before committing to hardware.
Platform detail
Web browser
Open https://signage-ng.stqry.com in any modern browser and connect the display as normal. Put the browser into full screen (F11 on Windows and Linux, Control-Command-F on a Mac) to hide the toolbar.
This is a supported fallback. Where one of the installed apps will run, use it — an app relaunches into the sign by itself after a power cut, and a browser needs someone to reopen it and put it back into full screen. But where none of them will, the browser build is a real option rather than a workaround, and it runs on anything.
It is also the only build that updates the moment we release. Every installed app carries its own copy and changes only when someone updates it from the store — see How updates reach your displays.
See Run Signage in a web browser.
Amazon Fire TV
Install STQRY Signage from the Amazon Appstore on the device. Fire TV Sticks and Fire TV Cubes running Fire OS 7 or 8 are supported, and the app appears on the Fire TV home row like any other app.
The newer Fire TV devices that run Amazon's Vega operating system instead of Fire OS are not currently supported. If you are buying new sticks for a deployment, check with us first.
See Set up an Amazon Fire TV Stick.
Android TV and Android
Install STQRY Signage from the Google Play Store. It works on Android TV boxes, Android TV built into a television, Android tablets and Android phones, and it appears in the Android TV launcher with its own banner.
Minimum is Android 7.0 (API 24). Most deployed devices are Android 9 to 11.
An Android phone or tablet can also drive an external HDMI screen — see Screen orientation and external HDMI displays.
See Set up an Android TV device or Android tablet.
Windows
Install STQRY Signage from the Microsoft Store. It needs 64-bit Windows 10 version 1809 (build 17763) or later; Windows 11 is fully supported.
The Store package is self-contained — it carries everything it needs, so you do not have to install the .NET runtime or the Windows App SDK separately.
See Set up Windows.
iPad, iPhone and Mac
Install STQRY Signage from the App Store (iPadOS/iOS 16 or later) or the Mac App Store (macOS 14 Sonoma or later).
An iPad on a stand makes a good small-format sign. Note that iPadOS will not keep the screen awake indefinitely unless the device is plugged in and auto-lock is turned off in iOS Settings.
See Set up iPad, iPhone or Mac.
Not currently supported
We are sometimes asked about these, and the answer today is no:
- Samsung Tizen and LG webOS commercial panels
- BrightSign players
- Raspberry Pi
- Apple TV (tvOS)
- Fire TV devices running Amazon's Vega OS rather than Fire OS
Drive a panel from one of the supported devices on its HDMI input instead — a Fire TV Stick or an Android TV box does this well, and costs less than a player box.
Orientation
Every platform supports both landscape and portrait, and nothing is locked. A vertically mounted panel displays portrait content correctly, and a device mounted upside down in a ceiling or under-shelf bracket rotates to match.
The app follows the device's own orientation — see Screen orientation and external HDMI displays.
Resolution
The app scales to whatever resolution the screen reports, and images are downloaded at the screen's own pixel dimensions, so a 4K panel gets 4K images and a 1080p stick does not waste bandwidth on them. There is no resolution setting to configure.
Network requirements
- Outbound HTTPS (port 443) to your region's STQRY API and media CDN.
- No inbound ports and no VPN.
- A display that loses its connection keeps playing the content it has already cached.
If your network uses a filtering proxy, allow .stqry.com and the regional media CDN hostnames. Regions and activation keys lists the hostnames for each region.
