When someone fills in a form in STQRY Engage, their response can add them to People and sign them up to a marketing list. This happens when the form's Action is Create people and marketing list subscriptions, which is the default.
When a person is added
A response adds or updates a person only if the form has an Email field and the respondent filled it in. A response with no email is kept with the form, but no person is linked to it.
How a response is matched
STQRY Engage looks for a person whose preferred email address matches the one on the response.
| If… | Then… |
|---|---|
| Someone has that preferred email | The response is linked to them. |
| Nobody does | A new person is created, with that email as their preferred email. |

A new person, created from their first form response.
A match on one of a person's other email addresses doesn't count, and creates a new person. To avoid duplicates, keep each person's main address as their Preferred email. See Manage people.
What's updated
If the form has Given name, Family name, Gender or Pronouns fields, their answers replace what's on the person. Fields the respondent leaves empty don't change anything.
Answers to other fields stay with the submission and aren't copied onto the person.
If the respondent ticks a Marketing list field, they're subscribed to that list.
Each response also appears in the person's History.
Turning it off
To keep responses without touching People, set the form's Action to Store submissions, do not create. See Create a form.
Next steps
- Add fields to a form: add the email and name fields.
- Manage marketing lists: let people sign up from a form.
